Keith and Kevin the New Kings of Queanbeyan?
Two Starters for Two Winners for Capital Racing Stables
Three Wins from Four Rides For Kevin Sweeney

Two of the Stables' more promising horses, Etoile Vitesse and Hannesburg, won impressively at Queanbeyan on Monday the 15th of June, in races 2 and 3 on the card.  Kevin rode them both, after winning on a pick up ride in the 1st race on the program.

The photo shows Keith and Kevin discussing tactics on Etoile Vitesse before race 2 - the plan was not to lead on her, but settle just off the pace. She was just too brilliant for that field, though, and led all the way, still going strongly on the line. Keith is looking at a Sydney race for her now, if she pulls up OK.
She paid $2.60 on the NSW tote.

Then in the third race, the Johannesburg 3YO Hannesburg, having only his third start, raced handy to the turn, then bounded away at the 200m to win easily.  Kevin is shown here returning Hannesburg to scale, with 'Rabbits' about to assist.  Hannesburg paid  $7.10 for the win. Kevin Steers Billybougg to Maiden Win

Stylish bay Billybougg won his Maiden at Canberra on Friday 8th May.  Kevin Sweeney went forward on the Tobougg 3YO from a wide barrier,  and the horse fought on nicely to win by a length on the line.  Keith may spell Billybougg now, as he believes he will be a better horse next preparation, when he is more mentally mature.  Billybougg started at $14.00.

Culture Warrior Wins the Battle in Class 2 at Goulburn

The Marechel 3YO Culture Warrior took the next step in his career by winning at Goulburn over 1000m on the 20th April 2009.  Taylor Lovelock-Wiggins had the bay close to the lead in the run, then let him work his way to the front from the 200m mark.  The horse seemed to have a fair bit on his opposition, indicating that he might have a real future, as Keith believes.
Culture Warrior started favourite at $2.80.

Shwedagon at $63.80, Bacchanal Woman in the National Sprint - Another Huge Day for Capital Racing Stables on Black Opal Day 2009

Keith had two winners from four starters on the 2009 Black Opal Day at Canberra.  Starting the outsider of the field in the 2000m Southern Cross Ten Ratings 72 Handicap, the Fantastic Light gelding Shwedagon finished powerfully from the 300m mark to win running away.
Keith's second success came in the $100,000 National Sprint over 1400m, when the last start winner Bacchanal Woman blew them away when she cruised to the lead at the 120m mark.  It was also another win for the form jockey of the moment, Kevin Sweeney.

The Keith and Kevin Show Moves on to Queanbeyan - Magic Merlot and Just Rory Win on Friday the 27th of February

Good 'on speed' rides by Kevin Sweeney helped Keith's only two starters at Queanbeyan on the 27th of  February to comfortable wins - Magic Merlot (pictured) in the 1100m Maiden, and Just Rory in the 900m Class 2.  Both horses beat well supported favourites.  Magic Merlot paid $3.40  for the win, and Just Rory $5.90.

Big Day for the Stables with Three Winners on Sunday 22nd February 2009,  Huge Day for Kevin with Five.

Keith was pretty pleased with the efforts of his winners, Culture Warrior (Maiden), Bacchanal Woman (Burley Griffin Quality), and Lucetius ( R77 Lowes Printers Handicap).  Kevn Sweeney's star shone even brighter, though, with two additional winners, including Moorings Mate in the 2YO AAMI Lightning Ridge ($25,000).
Kevin's day out puts him to the top of the ACT jockeys' premiership.   It was his first 'five bagger' - his previous best at one meeting was four.

Numerosa Wins Ratings 77 1400m Handicap at Canberra, 23rd January 2009

Mr and Mrs Hughes, owners and breeders of the 4YO Rhythm mare Numerosa, were at the Friday Canberra meeting in January 2009 to see their 'baby' win.  In a strong race, Numerosa was unwanted in the betting, paying $17.00 on the local tote.  Kevin Sweeney took the lightly framed bay to the lead at just the right time at about the 180m mark, and she fought off the challengers convincingly.

Numerosa is shown here parading before the race.

Keith Wins 2007/8 Canberra Premiership

Keith emphasised his position as one of the region's leading trainers by taking out this season's Canberra premiership.  He trained 19.5 winners for the season, four ahead of his nearest rival, Barbara Joseph.  Keith attributes his success to his good staff, and especially to his loyal owners .
