Daryl and Vilakazi Street Both Storm Home for Impressive Wins at Moruya

The Johannesburg 5YO Vilakazi Street fell out of the barriers and settled last in the 2012 Narooma Town Plate, but finished powerfully to get up on the line by a short neck.  Daryl also did it tough in Race 2, the Class 1 1200m, when he settled 4th/5th in the run, and had to 'fly' over the last 60m to pass the 2nd horse and win by one and a quarter lengths.
Both horses started favourite, Daryl at $2.60, and Vilakazi Street at $3.80.

Win by Dab Touch, Good Runs by Other Horses, at 30th December Canberra Meeting

The Stables finished off 2011 strongly with good performances at Canberra last Friday.
First up, but with two good jumpouts under his belt, Dab Touch finished hard to win by two and three quarter lengths in the BM60 1000m race.
Other runs by Stables' horses on the day were:
Acta Non Verba; close second, a little unlucky the way the race was run;
Sipaan: showed he will make a stayer next prep;
Our Angelina: made late ground to just fail, Kevin feels she is looking for more ground.

Our Angelina and Braviano Both Win at Queanbeyan 15th December

Early Christmas presents came  to the owners of  Our Angelina and Braviano at Queanbeyan last Thursday.  Our Angelina raced handy early in the 1200m Maiden, then settled back to make her move at the 250m mark.  Keith felt it was a good win but there is improvement in the filly still, and Kevin said she would get 1400m in time.
Braviano maintained his recent good form with a two length win in the 1100m Class 2.  Jake Duffy rode exactly to instructions, having the 5YO midfield to the turn, and htiting the front at the 200m.
Keith is the leading trainer at Queanbeyan at the moment, following a very good strike rate over the past few months, 5 from 13.  The Stables is also leading the premiership at Canberra.

Braviano and Kevin Sweeney the Big Winners at Canberra

Kevin Sweeney started the Canberra Sunday meeting on 27th November with a bang when he won on the Stables' Braviano in the first race, the 1000m Class 1.  Keith feels Braviano is now over some of his early problems, and appeared to race better with a different bit, and with blinkers on.
For the rest of the Canberra meeting, it was the Kevin Sweeney show, with three more winners to the veteran jockey, plus a second on the Stables' Acta Non Verba.  District jockeys are reportedly  considering submitting a proposal to make the more experienced and skilled jockeys like Kevin carry a 1.5kg penalty on each mount, to give the others a chance.

Strategic Purchase Pays Dividends at Gundagai

Kevin Sweeney jumped the 3YO Strategic Purchase to the front, then shared the lead to the turn in the 1100m Maiden on Snake Gully Cup Day at Gundagai.  The filly was headed at the 200m, but fought back gamely to win by half a head.  She started $1.60 favourite.
Keith was happy with the win, and feels Strategic Purchase may now be looking for more ground, especially as her half brother ran third in a Hong Kong Derby.

Spanish Halo and Daryl Round Out a Good Week for the Stables with Canberra Wins

Over the four days leading up to Melbourne Cup Day, Capital Racing Stables had six starters for a fourth, two thirds, a second, and the two winners at Canberra.  Kevin Sweeney, who rode both winners, had to ride Spanish Halo right out to win by half a length, but Daryl's win looked easier, with Kevin easing the Delzao 3YO up on the line, to still win by a length and a half.
Keith plans to take a large contingent to the Snake Gully Cup meeting at Gundagai on the 11th November, and the two winners may go onto that meeting if there are suitable races.

Wild Rumours Stops Speculation at Queanbeyan

The 3YO Elvstroem filly Wild Rumours ended any doubts about her ability when she won the 1100m Maiden at Queanbeyan on Monday 17th October.  Kevin Sweeney jumped her nicely from gate 1, and she led by two lengths all the way from there.  Kevin said she has a lot to learn, but was pleased with the win.
It was a nostalgic win for two of the owners, John Mullens and John Hogbin, who had their first winner with Keith back in 1989, also in a Queanbeyan maiden, with a horse called Foremost Boy.  These two Johns are hopeful Wild Rumours will go onto better things than did Foremost Boy!  The ownership of Wild Rumours also includes two first time owners, David Childs and Steve Morgan, both of whom were delighted with the win.

Double for Stables on Defence Force Cup Day at Queanbeyan
Tash Winton's First Win for Keith

Promising apprentice Tash Winton rode her 19th winner on Braviano at the 25th September Queanbeyan meeting, but it was her first win for Capital Racing Stables.  Keith suggests it won't be the last, as Tash rode the Falbrav 5YO beautifully, settling him 4th, and coming right away from the 150m for a 2 1/4 length win.

Mass Exodus then won the feature race, the Cup, impressively.  The Iglesia 7YO won comfortably by 1 3/4 lengths, and was piloted by Shaun Guymer.  Keith feels the horse was due for a win, as he had been racing without luck recently.

General Jay Dee Tops Good Week for Stables With Canberra Win

The 4yo Imminent Danger came within a whisker of two wins for the Stables in  the first week of September when he just failed to win the 2000m race at Wagga on Monday 5th.  Part owned by  former Stables team member Jamie Edwards,  the Encosta De Lago gelding is close to another win, Keith feels.
General Jay Dee had chalked up a win at Canberra on the previous Friday, with what Keith described as an impressive effort.  Kevin is seen here enjoying the moment after the win in the 1206m BM 65 race.

Big Day for Stables at Canberra, Friday 19th August- Four Cheques from Four Starters.

General Jay Dee led by example for the first win of the day in the 1280m BM65.  Kevin Sweeney had the General Nediym gelding just off the pace, and the horse showed plenty of fight to run down the leader (and favourite) Maniago to win by three lengths.  General Jay Dee started at 3.60.

Vilakazi Street Finds Fast Lane at Canberra 22 July 2011

The stylish 4YO Vilakazi Street proved his class with a strong win at the last Canberra Acton meeting, appreciating the firmer track.  Kevin Sweeney had the Johannesburg gelding back 2nd last to the turn, but drove him hard from there for a one and a half length win.  Vilakazi Street started $2.20 favourite.
Keith plans another Canberra run for the horse, before perhaps another trip to Sydney.

Keith Wins 2007/8 Canberra Premiership

Keith emphasised his position as one of the region's leading trainers by taking out this season's Canberra premiership.  He trained 19.5 winners for the season, four ahead of his nearest rival, Barbara Joseph.  Keith attributes his success to his good staff, and especially to his loyal owners .
